Jake Dongyoung Shim ’22 Claims Third Prize at the 2024 ISANGYUN Competition

Alumnus Jake Dongyoung Shim ’22 received Third Prize at the 2024 ISANGYUN Competition, held from November 2–10 in South Korea. Recognized with $7,100, Jake distinguished himself among international violinists aged 15–30 at this renowned event, which fosters cultural exchange and celebrates the legacy of Korean composer, Isang Yun. Jake also received the "Isang Yun Special Prize" for his performance of Isang Yun's Violin Concerto No. 3

Jake’s accolades include top prizes at the Stulberg, Mozart, F. Kreisler, and Irving M. Klein competitions, as well as performances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. A skilled chamber musician, he has appeared at several festivals like the Perlman Music Program. He is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Curtis Institute under Shmuel Ashkenasi and Ida Kavafian. Jake received his Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from NEC in 2022, studying with Donald Weilerstein
