Three NEC Alumni Appointed to Violin Section of the Rhode Island Philharmonic

The Rhode Island Philharmonic has announced the appointment of three New England Conservatory alumni to its violin section: Francesca Anderegg (Prep), Chiung-Han Tsai ’25, ’27 MM, and Sophia Szokolay ’19, ’25 MM. Their appointments reflect both the orchestra’s continued artistic growth and NEC’s longstanding tradition of preparing exceptional string players for professional orchestral careers.

Francesca Anderegg, an alumna of NEC’s Prep School, has built a dynamic career as a performer and educator. Her early training at NEC laid the groundwork for her artistic development, fostering both technical command and expressive depth. Her appointment marks a meaningful milestone as she joins one of New England’s leading professional orchestras.

Chiung-Han Tsai ’25, ’27 MM recently completed their Master of Music at NEC and will continue their studies toward a Graduate Diploma in 2027. During their time at the Conservatory, Tsai distinguished themself as a versatile and collaborative musician, performing extensively in orchestral and chamber settings. Their selection to the violin section underscores their growing presence as an emerging orchestral artist.

Sophia Szokolay ’19, ’25 MM, who earned her undergraduate degree from NEC in 2019 and completed her Master of Music in 2025, has developed a vibrant performing career shaped by her deep engagement with both solo and ensemble repertoire. While at NEC, she was recognized for her musical sensitivity and leadership within orchestral settings, qualities that will serve her well in her new role.
