Katharine Schimmer ’11 Named Associate Dean for Artistic Planning at Eastman School of Music

The Eastman School of Music, part of the University of Rochester, has appointed Katharine Schimmer ’11 to the role of Associate Dean for Artistic Planning. Schimmer’s appointment begins June 9, 2025.

In her new position, Schimmer will lead a strategic and integrated approach to Eastman’s concert season and special events, working closely with faculty, students, guest artists, and university partners. Her portfolio will include planning festivals, conferences, and interdisciplinary initiatives, while also expanding Eastman’s performance reach both locally and nationally.

Before joining Eastman, Schimmer served as Director of Strategic Initiatives at The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts. Over more than a decade with the organization, she played a key role in major artistic and institutional efforts, including the dedication of Marian Anderson Hall. She also held leadership positions in artist services and artistic administration, and contributed to collaborations with national partners such as the National Science Foundation, NASA, and the National Portrait Gallery.

Schimmer’s extensive experience also includes roles with the San Francisco Symphony, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, singer-songwriter James Taylor, and the Berkshire Theatre Group.
