Zitong Wang ’24 MM, ’26 GD Takes 3rd Prize in the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition

Zitong Wang ’24 MM, ’26 GD has been awarded 3rd prize in the prestigious International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, one of the most renowned piano contests in the world. Wang performed in the final round with Andrzej Boreyko and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday, October 19, marking a major milestone in her already impressive career. Competition prize winners were announced on Monday, October 20.

Wang earned her Master of Music in 2024 and continues her studies in the Graduate Diploma program at the NEC, where she works under the guidance of celebrated pianist Dang Thai Son, himself a winner of the Chopin Competition.

Born in 1999, Wang has already earned numerous accolades on the international stage. She won first prize in the Rosalyn Tureck Bach Competition in New York, as well as competitions in Princeton and Ferrol, Spain. In 2023, she took sixth prize in the Busoni Competition in Bolzano, Italy.

Wang made her solo recital debut at age 13 at Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall and has since appeared at major venues including Verizon Hall in Philadelphia, Severance Hall in Cleveland, and Steinway Hall in New York. She has performed with orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, and Galicia Symphony, collaborating with renowned conductors Jahja Ling and Xian Zhang.
