Eric Lu ’13 Prep has won first place at the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. The 27-year-old pianist from Massachusetts was selected by a 17-member jury from 181 competitors representing more than 30 countries. Held every five years and devoted almost entirely to Chopin’s works, the competition is among the world’s most distinguished piano events. As winner, Lu receives a gold medal and €60,000.

Lu first gained international attention after finishing fourth in the 2015 Chopin Competition at age 17. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and NEC's Preparatory School, he later won the 2018 Leeds International Piano Competition and recently released a recording of Schubert Impromptus.

Congratulations, Eric!
