A jury of distinguished musicians in each city bases their decisions on two main criteria: high level of performance demonstrating artistic inspiration and passion for social outreach. Prominent past recipients, including Kim Kashkashian, Joseph Lin, and Yura Lee '05 AD.

As part of his prize, Alexander will receive a debut recital in Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall on November 30, 2022, recording sessions courtesy of Yamaha Artist Services New York, professional consultation services, and membership of the Pro Musicis artists family.

Additionally, Alexander received the Father Eugène Merlet Community Service Award. The $4,000 grant will go towards a series of three interactive community concerts for disadvantaged communities in Chicago, with children and their parents being offered a free meal alongside the concert.
