Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Bassin '04 on his new position as Director of Orchestras at Idyllwild Arts

Daniel is an active and experienced conductor, composer, improviser, trumpeter and educator. His performances have taken him to 38 countries and 42 American states, and having previously served in orchestral conducting faculty positions at the State University of New York campuses of the University at Buffalo (UB) and Buffalo State College, Dr. Bassin has also had extensive experience working with choruses.

For eight years he served as Music Director of Buffalo’s historic Unitarian Universalist Church (UUCB), as well as Artistic Director of the Buffalo Master Chorale, the adult ensemble of Buffalo Niagara Choirs, Inc., from 2017-2019, developing and conducting dynamic thematic programs which celebrated over 1,000 years of exemplary choral works while also uplifting under-represented composers.

Featured numerous times in Buffalo’s ArtVoice Classical Music Notes column, reviewer Jan Jezioro writes Daniel “consistently programs some of the most innovative classical music in Western New York.”

Daniel received his BM in Composition from New England Conservatory and his MFA in Orchestral Conducting from Bard College, and in the spring of 2014 he was awarded the Ph.D. in Composition from the University at Buffalo.
