Rick McLaughlin ’99, ’05 MM Guest Stars on Stevie Wonder Podcast

NEC alumnus and former faculty member Rick McLaughlin ’99, ’05 MM, recently appeared as a guest on Audible’s original series The Wonder of Stevie, which explores the story and music of legendary musician Stevie Wonder. The series features in-depth musical and cultural analyses from artists, critics, and thought leaders, including Barack and Michelle Obama, Questlove, Smokey Robinson, Janelle Monáe, George Clinton, and more.

Although primarily known as a bassist, Rick has spent much of the past decade teaching aspiring musicians, notably as Assistant Professor of Harmony at Berklee College of Music, and as Assistant Chair of the Jazz Department at NEC's School of Preparatory and Adult Education. He has shared the stage with a wide range of jazz musicians such as Don Byron '84, Steve Lacy, and John Medeski '88, along with rock musicians such as Willie “Loco” Alexander, Morphine and Peter Wolf, and country music star Roger Miller. Rick has performed in venues across the globe including Regattabar (Cambridge, MA), CBGB’s (New York, NY), Chicago Jazz Festival (Chicago, IL), Jazz Bakery (Los Angeles, CA), Teatro Manzoni (Milano, Italy), New Mississippi Jazz Club (Roma, Italy), Jazztone (Lorrach, Germany), and Wasserwerk Bern (Bern, Switzerland).

He received his Bachelor of Music in 1999 and his Master of Music in 2005, both in Jazz Performance from NEC.
