Alyssa Wang ’19 MM to Lead NEC’s 2025 Summer Orchestra Institute

Alumna Alyssa Wang ’19 MM, an acclaimed conductor, violinist, and composer, will return to NEC next summer to direct the Summer Orchestra Institute (SOI). Designed for intermediate and advanced young musicians, SOI provides an intensive week of rehearsals, masterclasses, and lessons, culminating in performances at historic Jordan Hall.

Alyssa, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Boston Festival Orchestra, brings her vast experience and passion for youth music education to the program. "It’s as close to a professional timeline as any youth orchestra will get," Alyssa states. She describes this program as a “crash course” in orchestral life, giving students the opportunity to tackle challenging repertoire, such as Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, while working closely with professional mentors.
