Nell Shaw Cohen '12 Showcases Artwork at Woodstock Artists Association & Museum

Nell Shaw Cohen ’12 has been making waves as both a composer and visual artist with her recent watercolor paintings featured in four exhibitions at the historic Woodstock Artists Association & Museum in Woodstock, NY. Her work is currently showcased in Small Works: Narratives for the Future, juried by Brigitta Varadi, and Gratitude: Annual Members’ Holiday Exhibition & Sale. Both exhibitions run through December 29. Earlier this fall, her paintings were part of Small Works A-F, an annual members’ exhibition, and Water: Source of Life, curated by Kathleen Vance and Daniel Aycock of Front Room Gallery, NY.

Beyond music and painting, Nell is the Founder and Director of LandscapeMusic.org, an international network of composers inspired by nature and place. Under her leadership, the organization has launched initiatives such as Lungs of the City: Olmsted’s Parks in Music, a multi-city concert series commemorating the bicentennial of Frederick Law Olmsted.

While at NEC, Nell studied composition with Michael Gandolfi '79, '81 MM and John Mallia '92 MM, Her achievements also include NEC's prestigious George Whitefield Chadwick Medal for which she received for superior accomplishment in the major field, supplementary studies, extracurricular activities, and citizenship.
