
Robert McGrath ’98 Appointed President and CEO of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) has named Robert McGrath ’98 as its new President and CEO, effective February 17, 2025. A seasoned leader in the orchestral world, Robert will succeed Jonathan Martin, who recently retired.
During his tenure as Vice President and General Manager and later Chief Operating Officer, Robert earned praise for his vision and steady leadership. Notably, he guided the CSO through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, spearheading the creation of the acclaimed "Live from Music Hall" digital concert series, which reached millions of viewers worldwide.
Robert’s extensive career includes senior positions at the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, and Chicago’s Music of the Baroque. He also began his journey in arts administration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, combining his background in bassoon performance with a passion for organizational growth.
“I am deeply honored to step into this role at such an exciting moment for the CSO,” said McGrath. “With the arrival of Cristian Măcelaru as Music Director and the development of a state-of-the-art venue, I look forward to building on the orchestra’s rich legacy and strengthening its impact in the community.”
CSO Board Chair Dianne Rosenberg lauded Robert’s leadership, stating,

Robert graduated from NEC in 1998 with a Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance. The NEC community celebrates this remarkable achievement and looks forward to his contributions to the future of orchestral music.
