Geneva Lewis '20, '22 AD to Release Her Debut Album, New York Perspectives
Violinist Geneva Lewis '20, '22 AD continues to build an impressive international reputation, combining major concerto appearances with a passionate commitment to chamber music. Based in New York City, Lewis is preparing for another significant milestone with the upcoming release of her debut album, New York Perspectives, set for release on October 2. Recorded with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under conductor Gemma New, the recording features Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, Philip Glass’s Violin Concerto No. 1, and John Zorn’s solo piece Partita for the Firebird. Beyond her recording debut, her busy schedule includes appearances with major American and European orchestras, including her upcoming debut with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
Lewis’s remarkable trajectory is grounded in a deep musical education that brought her to NEC, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and her Artist Diploma as the recipient of the Charlotte F. Rabb Presidential Scholarship. At NEC, she studied under esteemed faculty member Miriam Fried, a relationship that developed into artistic collaboration on stages such as the Marlboro Music Festival. Before her time in Boston, the New Zealand-born violinist studied with Aimée Kreston at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, and she later completed the Professional Studies Program at Germany's Kronberg Academy with Mihaela Martin.
Since her time at NEC, Lewis has earned a string of major accolades, including the Grand Prize at the 2020 Concert Artists Guild Competition, a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant, the 2021 Kronberg Academy Prince of Hesse Prize, and a 2022 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. She was also named a BBC New Generation Artist for 2022–2024, leading to her high-profile BBC Proms debut at Royal Albert Hall in 2023. Today, she frequently collaborates with world-renowned artists including Mitsuko Uchida, Sir András Schiff, Gidon Kremer, and Kim Kashkashian, solidifying her position as one of the most compelling violinists of her generation.
