David Kidd ’19 MM Wins Second Trombone Position in the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra

The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that David Kidd ’19 MM, has been appointed to the Second Trombone chair following a national audition. A versatile and accomplished performer, Kidd brings a dynamic résumé of orchestral experience and artistic excellence to his new role.

A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Kidd began playing trombone in the 7th grade and quickly distinguished himself as a rising talent. He earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from the University of Alabama, where he studied with Dr. Jonathan Whitaker. He went on to pursue graduate studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston, studying under Toby Oft, Principal Trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

During his time in Boston, Kidd performed with the Boston Pops and helped lead his trombone quartet to back-to-back victories in the American Trombone Workshop’s National Quartet Competition. Following his studies, he joined The Orchestra Now, performing in esteemed venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Stanford University’s Bing Concert Hall.

With his appointment in New Orleans, Kidd joins one of the nation’s most respected regional orchestras, celebrated for its innovative programming and deep community engagement. As he begins this next chapter, he brings not only outstanding musical credentials but also a passion for ensemble collaboration and artistic growth.
