Andreia Pinto-Correia ’06 MM, ’13 DMA Contributes to Acclaimed Album Featured by The New York Times
Acclaimed composer and alumna Andreia Pinto-Correia ’06 MM, ’13 DMA has been recognized for her contribution to The Four Elements, the latest recording by the boundary-pushing string quartet Brooklyn Rider. The album, which explores humanity’s relationship with nature through the lens of earth, air, fire, and water, was recently recommended by The New York Times as a highlight of the ensemble’s 20th-anniversary season.
In The New York Times review, critic David Allen described the album as,
"intellectually lucid, aesthetically omnivorous and emotionally draining the rare musical protest at the destruction of our planet that actually succeeds as art.”
Pinto-Correia’s contribution, Aere senza stelle, was commissioned for The Four Elements by the Vail Dance Festival under the artistic direction of Damian Woetzel. The piece reflects her signature style, described by The Boston Globe as “compellingly meditative,” and by The New York Times as an “aural fabric.” It is currently being performed internationally as part of Brooklyn Rider’s world tour. Her recent works include commissions from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, and she has collaborated with luminaries such as conductor Gustavo Dudamel and cellist Jay Campbell.
Originally from Lisbon, Pinto-Correia holds a double degree from Berklee College of Music and both Master’s and Doctoral degrees from NEC, where she studied with Bob Brookmeyer and Michael Gandolfi. She currently resides in Brooklyn and serves as faculty and co-curator of the Gamper New Music Series at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
Great work, Andreia!
