Katie Franke ’22 MM appointed First Female Trombonist in U.S. Marine Band History

NEC alumna Katie Franke ’22 MM has been appointed the First Female Trombonist in U.S. Marine Band History. She began this position in October of 2023.

Katie grew up playing trombone in Falls Church, Virginia. She earned her Undergraduate diploma from Indiana University and a Master's of Music from NEC in Trombone Performance. She is now a professional tenor trombonist based in Washington, D.C., performing with the Marine Band at the White House, around the D.C. area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour. Prior to joining the band, Katie substituted with the Houston Symphony, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, and the New Mexico Philharmonic.
