Alumna Gabriela Dìaz ’03, ’05 MM joins Kronos Quartet
Violinist, alumna, and former NEC faculty member Gabriela Díaz ’03, ’05 MM has joined the world-renowned Kronos Quartet. She, along with violist Ayane Kozasa, joined the quartet following the retirement of longstanding ensemble members John Sherba and Hank Dutt. Now, half of the quartet’s members are NEC alumni; cellist Paul Wiancko ’12 GD joined in February 2023.
The Kronos Quartet completed its 50th anniversary season in June. In over five decades together, Kronos has commissioned more than 1,100 new works and arrangements, performed thousands of concerts worldwide, and sold more than four million recordings. The quartet has won three GRAMMY Awards, 12 nominations, and numerous other prizes.
Gabriela shares,
"Kronos has such a rich history of championing the music of our time from all over the world. I am so excited to play those fantastic works and be part of the creation of new pieces for string quartet."
In 2004, Gabriela created the Boston Hope Ensemble, a program now part of Winsor Music. Through this program, musicians perform in cancer units at Boston hospitals and present benefit concerts for cancer research organizations in numerous venues throughout the United States. She also performs regularly with Castle of our Skins, Radius Ensemble, and Emmanuel Music, and collaborates with Alarm Will Sound, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and A Far Cry.
Gabriela received her Bachelor of Music degree in 2003 and her Master of Music degree in 2005 from NEC, both in Violin Performance.
Congratulations, Gabriela!
