Cheung Chau '06 DMA Wins The American Prize in Conducting

Alumnus Cheung Chau '06 DMA has won The American Prize in Conducting, professional division. This national competition celebrates his exceptional artistry and leadership.

Cheung is Music Director of Sinfonietta Polonia in Poland, Resident Conductor of the Changsha Symphony in China, and Director of Orchestras at Utah Valley University. He has worked with esteemed orchestras like the Seattle Symphony and Moscow Philharmonic. In 2023, he placed third in this competition’s Professional Orchestra Division.

The American Prize is a distinguished national competition recognizing excellence in the performing arts. Since 2010, it has celebrated artists, directors, ensembles, and composers across the U.S., based on recorded performances. The competition provides winners with cash awards, professional evaluations, and national recognition. Founder David Katz emphasizes its mission to honor artistic excellence at all levels. “If The American Prize helps build careers or stimulates opportunities, we have fulfilled our mission,” Katz stated.
