Dr. Christopher Jenkins ’03 MM Named Dean of Lawrence University Conservatory of Music
Lawrence University has appointed alumnus Dr. Christopher Jenkins ’03 MM as Dean of its Conservatory of Music, effective July 1.
A seasoned educator, administrator, and violist, Jenkins joins Lawrence from Oberlin College and Conservatory, where he served as Associate Dean for Academic Support. His leadership there focused on expanding academic opportunities and supporting student success, while also continuing his own work as a performer and scholar.
Jenkins holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Ph.D. in Musicology from Case Western Reserve University. As a performer, he has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and in Broadway productions such as Les Misérables and The Lion King.
Lawrence Provost Peter Blitstein called Jenkins “deeply qualified” and praised his vision for the Conservatory’s future.
Selected after a national search, Jenkins succeeds longtime Dean Brian Pertl, who led the Conservatory for 17 years before accepting a new role at the University of Denver.
Jenkins’ appointment comes as Lawrence celebrates the Conservatory’s 150th year.
Congratulations to Dr. Christopher Jenkins!
