Alexandra Simpson '15 Performs with Sabrina Carpenter & Takes on a New Position
After years of an adventurous and wide-ranging freelancing career, violist Alexandra Simpson ’15 is returning to her roots, this time at the helm. Simpson has been appointed Music Director of the San Domenico School’s Virtuoso Program in San Anselmo, California, an intensive training program for highly motivated high school string musicians preparing for careers in music.
Simpson’s professional journey has been anything but conventional. She has toured internationally with Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, recorded for A24 film soundtracks, and performed impromptu sets alongside avant-garde New York City saxophonists. Simpson along with fellow NEC alum Marza Wilks '14, '16 MM (cello) even joined Sabrina Carpenter for a Tiny Desk Concert. Now, she’s trading the whirlwind of global tours and last-minute gigs for a role a little closer to home, both literally and figuratively.
A graduate of San Domenico herself, Simpson’s appointment is a homecoming to the very place that nurtured her early musical ambitions. The school’s internationally recognized Music Conservatory and Virtuoso Program offers a rigorous academic and musical curriculum designed for high school students pursuing careers as professional string musicians. As Music Director, Simpson will lead the program’s artistic vision, guiding students through intensive performance training, chamber music collaboration, and mentorship opportunities that mirror the demands of a professional career.
Way to go, Alexandra!
