Jahnvi Madan ’24 became the Youngest Musician to be Commissioned by Seattle’s Earshot Jazz
When Jahnvi Madan ’24 first arrived on NEC’s campus, the alumna had never composed a piece of music before. Just a few years later, Jahnvi became the youngest musician to be commissioned by Seattle’s Earshot Jazz to create an original composition for its 2023 Festival. She also became the Earshot Jazz's Northwest Emerging Artist of the Year.
Jahnvi is a clarinetist and composer who recently graduated from NEC with a Bachelor's of Music degree in Jazz Performance. When asked about what it means for her to bring her identity into her music, Jahnvi said:
"My approach to performing is always to talk through all my music — I talk about what I was thinking about when I wrote something."
