
Three NEC Alumni join the San Francisco Symphony
As seven new musicians join the San Francisco Symphony for the 2024-2025 season, three are fellow NEC alumni! Christopher Bassett ’16 joins as Bass Trombone, Jeein Kim ’21 MM joins as Section First Violin, and Davis You ’24 joins as Fourth Chair Cello.
Christopher Bassett ’16 has previous experience serving as Bass Trombone with the St. Louis Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, and Santa Fe Opera. He has also performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony, Detroit Symphony, and Indianapolis Symphony. Last season, he appeared as a substitute musician with the SF Symphony, including on the March California tour. Christopher received his Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from NEC in 2016, where he studied with James Markey.
Jeein Kim ’21 MM was previously a member of the Korean National Symphony Orchestra and has been a substitute musician with the Chicago Symphony. As a soloist, she has performed with Praha Hradec Kralove Philharmonic Orchestra, Yonsei University Orchestra, Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, JK Chamber Orchestra, and Northwest Sinfonietta. Jeein received her Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from NEC in 2021, where she studied with Soovin Kim.
Davis You ’24 was previously a member of Quartet Luminera, which won the silver medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. He has appeared on NPR’s From the Top, San Francisco International Piano Festival, Wellesley Chamber Players Series, Taos Chamber Music Festival, and Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from NEC this past May, where he studied with Laurence Lesser and Paul Katz, and also appeared as Principal Cello of the NEC Philharmonia.
